Parable of the Sower

The Parable of the Sower and its interpretation is the portrayal of the obstacles Jesus encountered in His preaching/teaching of God’s word. Those same obstacles are alive today in our lives, but we must continue to proclaim God’s word. The Word often makes little impact on us, it goes in one ear and out the other. Like the seed that fell on rock and grew initially but then died away because it had no root, we can hear the Word and receive it, but we do not really make it our own. We must make the Word our own for it to make an impact in our lives.

We must ponder the Word in our hearts, the storm of life takes us in various ways and the Word get squeezed out, we forget what we have learned, but Jesus will never give up on us; He keeps sowing, He keeps loving us, encouraging, so we should not give up on ourselves either.

For It is written, “While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, He told this parable: “A farmer went out to sow his seed, as he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seeds fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants, still other seeds fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”

When Jesus called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” His disciples asked Him what this parable meant. He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.

Jesus said,“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches, and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.” (Luke 8:4-15) (NIV).

The rich soil refers to those who listen to the Word of God and obey.

Please do not allow the devil to take your attention away from the Lord, focus on Him, persevere in faith so you can bear much fruit in all circumstances because our spirit life is sometimes highs and lows, but please do not lose faith.

In times of difficulties, God is still with us, so be careful that you do not turn away from God. When Apostle Paul had thorns on his flesh, he did not turn away from the Lord, but pleaded with God to take the thorn away from him, and the Lord said My grace is sufficient with you.

The disciples rejoiced in pain and suffering, for example, (Paul and Silas, Peter, and John) that they are found worthy to suffer. (many stripes on their body and were imprisoned). Jesus Himself suffered many things for our sakes.

We must be patient, pray and cling to Him. Suffering can also make us get closer to the Lord, or away from Him, please let your suffering get you closer to God because there is no other way but Jesus. Temptations cannot be avoided, but suffering will strengthen you, build a character in you, so please do not sin while suffering, do not sin while in pain. Focus on what you can do for others because that is where the real joy comes from. Visit the elderly and help them, bless the poor, the orphans, the homeless, and the widows. (for example, what can I do to help you?) Think less about yourselves but more about others.

The Parable of the Sower is spiritual consolation and spiritual desolation, for example, “I do not feel like praying today” or “I do not feel like attending service today/Church.” Also, when an individual feels as though the Lord is far from you. This is spiritual desolation, do not be discouraged.

God sometimes permits spiritual desolation in us because He wants us to grow, to be more prayerful, especially for others and much more.

Thorns can sometimes come from the Church, when individuals gossip about others, or one is abused or judged wrongfully. Yes, it is painful, but we must let go because carrying the cross is worse.

I once got home from a Church service and was about to weep because I was hurt by a Christian, but Jesus stopped me and said, “What are you doing? Did you carry the cross for anyone?” I had to let go.

Spiritual consolation is when God is closer to us.

Brothers and sisters, God reaches us through spiritual signs, for example, the smell of roses, glowing face, bleeding on the cross, His Light shining on the cross, or fire under the cross. (If one has the cross at home). If suddenly one’s mouth or taste buds become sweet, know the Lord is present, but bad taste is not of God.

“Once my mouth became very sweet and I wondered where the sweet came from.”

It is important to keep praying amid spiritual desolation, please do not give up, do not stop attending Church.

Many Blessings and peace multiplied to you and your family in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen!!
